Unlike conventional slit-style observatory domes, the clamshell design opens broadly to provide an exceptional 180° / 360° unrestricted field of view. When the dome opens, the observer experiences the feeling of being directly under the stars, with a clear and immersive view of the night sky.

Designed for Wide Sky Access

The clamshell configuration gives this dome a major advantage over traditional slit-style domes. Instead of viewing the sky through a narrow opening, the two shell sections open broadly, creating a highly immersive observing environment.

Drive and Control System

The 3.75M clamshell dome is equipped with a strong 24VDC belt drive system for both shutters. This system is designed to provide reliable opening and closing under demanding conditions.

The supplied control system can be connected directly to mains power from 110VAC to 220VAC. Computer control is available through the integrated USB port or Ethernet interface, making the dome suitable for automated and remote observatory applications.

For projects requiring fast access to the sky, an optional rapid-deployment shutter drive system is available. An optional snow removal vibration system can also be supplied for sites where snow accumulation may be a concern.
